Scratch - There was only eight of us, so this would be a war of attrition all night. I bumped my gearing down from my usual 94 to a 92 (Thanks for the chainring loan Al). There are guys that out spin me every week so I think the time has come for me to learn. Pushing the big gear is nice for my riding style, but not for race nights that go upwards of 100 laps. I felt a little uncomfortable but held my own in the group. Attacks went off every few laps, and nothing stuck until Dave Mesa (Chica Sexy) went with six to go. At the end I found myself hanging on in a small group with Alex Farioletti (Affinity) and Aaron Hunter. I felt like they were giving up the chase so I attacked, but ended up pulling Farioletti with me. Not sure where I placed since we were all strung out…it wasn’t good though!
Points - 40 laps at 5 in a small group sucks! Immediately the field shattered and it was pretty clear that the race was between Jeromy Cottel (Team Specialized Racing Masters) and Mesa. Fergus Tanaka (Chica Sexy) was up there, but out of contention mid race. As the rest of us fought to not get completely dropped it became a battle for 4th between me and Hunter. I think I won six out of eight sprints for fourth. Getting points the hard way.
Elimination - This is just a Miss N Out with no three-up final sprint. Coming into the elimination for fourth I was in a terrible position. Fergus was in the lane, Cottel to his right, Mesa to his right. I somehow decided it was imperative to squeeze the gap between Cottel and Mesa at the last minute. Unfortunately, Fergus saw me do it and threw his bike over the line…eliminating me. Damn!!! This was my best chance to get up higher in the omnium for the night. Oh well…next time.
